Warners, a leading printing company based in Bourne, Lincolnshire, recently commissioned a new Manroland R710P Elite 3B press, replacing a decade-old, 10-unit perfecting press at their facility. This upgrade signifies a major leap forward in the company’s production capabilities and efficiency.
In an interview with PrintWeek earlier this year, Michael Warner, Marketing Director at Warners, discussed the rigorous selection process for the new sheetfed press. Despite a longstanding relationship with Manroland—having used Manroland Lithoman web presses since 2006 and Manroland sheetfed presses for over a decade—the decision was challenging due to the impressive variety of options available.
“Looking at our needs, and what we thought was best for us, we settled on Manroland. We’re already familiar with the usual things like user interface, and the company itself, and we found that out of all the cut-sheet presses, it was the jigsaw piece that fit us best.” he said.
The new R710P press, equipped with a reel-fed cutter, will be primarily used for routine tasks such as covers, supplements, and special paginations unsuitable for the firm’s Lithoman web presses. Warner likened the team’s excitement to that of an F1 pit crew, focusing on the efficiency of make-readies and achieving good copy swiftly. “We do quantities from as little as 2,000 copies, so it’s all about the efficiencies, and that’s where the press will benefit us.” he added.
This upgrade is part of a broader efficiency drive at Warners. In 2023, the company installed its third batch of solar panels and implemented a comprehensive energy efficiency plan, saving approximately one Gigawatt-hour of energy. “Reducing our carbon footprint is a major focus, and sustainability will remain a top priority for 2024,” Warner emphasised.
