Manroland Sheetfed GmbH has appointed Mr Bernhard Schaaf to its senior management team as head of the large format press division, based at the group’s headquarters in Germany.
Mr Schaaf was formerly head of large format at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (HD), where he was employed for the past 14 years. HD announced last year that they are discontinuing large format press production.
Rafael Penuela, CEO Manroland Sheetfed GmbH:
« We are delighted to welcome Bernhard Schaaf to our leadership team. With the launch of the ROLAND 900 Evolution last summer coinciding with an increase in global demand for large format machines in packaging applications and Mr Schaaf’s intimate knowledge of the sector, the timing is perfect to strengthen our team and build upon the latest incarnation of Manroland’s iconic large format presses”.
Bernhard Schaaf:
« Over recent years Manroland Sheetfed has gone from strength to strength with financial stability, technological innovation, drive and commitment. The recent launch of the ROLAND 900 Evolution presses in 2020, demonstrates the company’s ambition and gives me the chance to explore further development opportunities in this highly important sector”.

Comment
Manroland Sheetfed couldn’t have timed the launch of its next-generation large size format press series better.
The company’s reputation in large format is well known to aficionados of the brand and HD exiting the sector has left a gaping hole in a growing market segment. It was a smart move on CEO Rafael Penuela’s part to snap up HD’s “Mr Large Format”.
Following on from launching the highly acclaimed ROLAND 700 Evolution in 2016, the ROLAND 900 Evolution Series announced last year is equally packed full of technological wizardry. And of course, legendary ROLAND quality.
